Hi everyone! It can be hard to determine what to moisturize with. Many moisturizing products leave behind a lot of product residue, which poses a huge problem for those of us with locs. However, we can’t just not moisturize. Fun fact: When I got to Canada, I did not have a daily moisturizer but at the recommendation of my old loctician, I started using rose water on my locs. And I realized the difference immediately. Eventually, I started making my own rose water, adding other ingredients to boost its benefits (the benefits are discussed below), and then started selling it.

So why should you use rose water on your locs?
Water-based
The main reason is for moisture. Rose water is as the name suggests, water-based. Water-based products are the best way to moisturize your locs. Furthermore, it does not leave heavy product residue. Many moisturizing products have a creamy consistency which can buildup in your lock, leading to a gray film if you don’t wash your locks often. These creams can also cause slippage and unravelling, and should only be used by those with mature locks. However, rose water can be used on both mature and beginner locks. Plus, you won’t have too deal with a bunch of product residue if you happen to go several weeks without washing your hair.
Hair growth
Some research also indicates that rose water stimulates hair growth. This is because rose water is rich in vitamin C, which helps to stimulate the production of collagen, which is needed for healthy hair growth.
Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory
In addition, rose water has natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and is a mild astringent, which means it can help to reduce the oiliness on your scalp. Excess oil can lead to scalp irritation and inflammation, as well as dandruff production. Therefore, rose water could help with dandruff and other scalp issues like psoriasis and eczema.
Softer hair
Furthermore, rose water softens hair. This is especially useful when retightening or styling locs. As seen in my post “Self-rightening tips”, I always spray my hair when retwisting. This makes my hair softer, and my scalp is not too sore when I’m done. This is also the case for styling, because rose water softens things up and allow for less straining when manipulating your locks into different styles.
Smell
Moreover, it smells amazing! It has the lovely natural scent of roses and is not too overwhelming like some hair products can be. In fact, I’ve been getting compliments on how my hair smells for years. One time, a friend of mine actually used my product as perfume! So the smell is definitely a plus.
Let me know in the comments if you use rose water and if you don’t, I’d love to hear what you use as a moisturizer.
Until next time!
~Jay

Hello,
Why are my Starter micro twist loc with extension looking so dry and hard?
Hello! Sadly, this is not enough information to provide you with an answer. The dryness could be caused by many things such as not moisturizing, moisturizing incorrectly, the type of hair/material used in the extensions, etc. I recommend that you go back to the person who installed your loc extensions and ask them for help as they would best know what is going on.
Please let me know when I can purchase your Rose Water.
Thank You

No problem!
Yes I use rose water for my locs question should I add an oil with it as well
Hi! You can if you want to. However, certain oils won’t blend very well and could clog up your spray bottle, so be sure to do your research to help you make the best choice.
P.s. our Rose water Revitalizing Spray already has additional ingredients like peppermint and rosemary that are blended in to the formula so you won’t have to worry about any oils when it comes to our product.

Should my sista Locs be moisturized or just my scalp. Also how do I fix my flyaway frizzies
Hi! I moisturize both, as I like my locs to feel soft and pliable. However, in terms of loc health, the focus should be on the scalp. You want the new growth to come out healthy, which will lead to the loc shaft being healthy as your hair is retightened and your locs grow.
For the flyaway frizzies I recommend using the methods in this article: https://mylocksjourney.com/frizzy-locs/
