Hi everyone! As you guys know, one of my favorite ways to style my locs is to curl them. This can be achieved using several different methods. Here are 5 easy ways to curl locs.
1. Braidout
This is the easiest way to get curly locs. First spray your hair with water or better yet our Rose water Revitalizing Spray. Then section out your locs and braid them. The smaller the section, the tighter the curl. The parts don’t have to be extremely neat or even. Lastly, when your locs are completely dry, undo all the plaits and enjoy your curls.
2. Flexi rods
The size of the flexi rod used determines the size of the curls achieved. In this pic, I used 8mm diameter flexi rods. In my post Simple loc updo for dummies, I give a detailed guide on how to use flexi rods to achieve this curl pattern.
3. Pipe cleaners
This is a method that has become quite popular. It’s great for obtaining a very tight curl pattern. In addition, it makes your hair appear a lot shorter so this can create a completely different look. Pipe cleaners are put in similarly to flexi rods by wrapping the lock strands around the pipe cleaner and using the ends of it to secure the hair in place. For a tighter hold, wet your locs beforehand. Personally, I use our Rose water Revitalizing Spray.
4. Bantu knots
Bantu knots are another great way to curl locs because they can be worn as a style before undoing them. It’s a 2-in-1 loc style!
5. Curling iron
Surprise! A lot of people don’t know that you can use a curling iron on locs. Just be sure to only use low heat. However, I still wouldn’t recommend doing this too often, and with all the above ways to curl locs, there’s no need to. But I just wanted to show you guys so you know it’s possible. I used the curling iron to achieve loose waves.
